Frequently Asked Questions

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu

Q: Can women participate in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu classes?

Absolutely. And even though it's a close-contact sport, there's never any awkwardness or uncomfortableness between genders. Everyone is just focused on having a great training experience. And because you'll be paired up with people of your skill level and size, gender doesn't even make a difference.

Q: I'm not looking to compete. Can I still take BBJ classes here?

Absolutely! There are just as many competitive people training but there are plenty here are hobbyists.

Q: Will a medical condition / past injury interfere with BJJ training?

Mostly likely not but speak with your doctor first. They will know better than anyone - and may be able to tell us what exercises you can & can't do.

Q: How many people are in class?

Classes will range between 15-30 people. The larger the class, the more instructors to help out.

Kids Martial Arts

Q: Are your martial art classes fun for children?

Yes! After all, these are kids we're dealing with. And kids love their fun. We do a variety of games and activities that have kids balling with laughter, and constantly smiling. We work hard here but we play just as hard.

Q: My child isn't athletic. Can he/she still participate in martial arts?

Absolutely. Martial arts teaches kids to be coordinated, flexible and strong. Kids who don't naturally have these qualities develop them. Kids who do have these qualities grow them even more.

Q: Will martial arts teach my child to be aggressive and violent?

Absolutely not. Children learn a lot about what it means to be respectful and polite here. As a result, kids who weren't violent in the first place become even more respectful and kind. Kids with behavior problems often become very respectful an calm.

Q: Do kids get injured in martial arts, karate, tae kwon do?

Sometimes. But the truth is, injuries are very, very rare here. We have a lot of measures in place to keep your child perfectly safe. In fact, safety is our #1 concern.

Mixed Martial Arts

Q: What kind of atmosphere do these classes have?

It's like a family here. Or a team. Everyone is extremely supportive and encouraging. Members help each other learn moves and get them down. We all push each other to go harder and longer than we could on our own. And we laugh and smile a lot together too. Come to one class and you'll see exactly what I'm talking about.

Q: How old is 'too old' for MMA?

I'm not sure what the answer is to this, as I've never seen someone who's “too old” come to our classes. We have young guys in their 20s, and older guys in their 40s and 50s. I've seen guys who train in their 60s and 70s. I'd say come give it a shot, and decide for yourself. You know your body and what you can handle better than anyone.

Q: Do you have injury-prevention measures in place?

Absolutely. Every class begins with warm-ups and stretching to get you limber and loose. This in itself prevents most injuries. Next, we teach every technique very precisely. And we teach you how to practice it in a very precise way too. This instruction - combined with professional supervision - insures that you won't get injured. Injuries do happen, but they're very rare

Q: Will there be other beginners in my class?

Absolutely. There are always beginners in class. Plus, the advanced students are always eager to help you get you on your way!

Fitness Kickboxing

Q: Are there other beginners in the classes?

Yes, classes are full of people of all experience levels - including total beginners.

Q: Is this similar to “cardio kickboxing”?

No, our classes are extremely interactive, and involve real-life boxing equipment like punching bags & gloves. This is nothing like cardio kickboxing!

Q: Will I get toned in these classes?

Absolutely. We've designed our program to lean & tone your muscles, helping you burn fat fast.

Q: Will you help me with my nutritional habits?

Not only do we cover nutrition tips in class, you can schedule a personal appointment with an instructor to cover your specific questions.

Q: How many classes per week should I attend?

We have classes 6 days a week so the amount of classes you take is based on your own personal schedule. Most of our members train about 1-3 times per week and see great results.

Q: Do I need to 'get in shape' before I start you classes?

A common misunderstanding is that you need to be 'in shape' before starting any martial arts training. This is completely false. Our classes are designed to allow our members to train 'at their own pace' while at the same time, giving the advanced student the opportunity to challenge themselves.
