Setting Goals

If you recall from our last blog, we talked about consistency. Although simply showing up to training every week is part of remaining consistent, another aspect to that is setting goals regularly. Your goals should be broken down into short-term and long-term goals and we highly recommend physically writing these down in order to stay on track and actually remember what your goals are.

Start with your long-term goals. What is it that you want to accomplish with starting martial arts? Do you want to have more confidence? Do you want to meet new people? Understand your reasons for starting martial arts and create your long-term goals from that.

Your short-term goals combined should equal your long-term goal. What this means is that you’ll need to strategically plan these out so that after a year or more, you’ll have reached your long-term goals.

The last key to success we’re going to leave you with is to have patience. Everything worth doing in life takes time and you’ll surely face a lot of challenges along the way that may set you back. The important thing to remember is that as long as you stay focused on what you’re trying to achieve and not on these setbacks or on what others are doing or telling you, you WILL achieve that goal. It may take longer than expected and it may not happen the way you planned it, but it surely will happen if you put your mind to it.
