Hello, and welcome back to our blog! Last time, we talked about some of the major benefits of youth martial arts training. Not surprisingly, there are a lot of benefits, so we’re going to have to split this into a three-parter. In part one, we talked about fitness, self-discipline, confidence, and sportsmanship and teamwork. These are all things that young people need to learn and develop in order to have a healthy life, create character, and to feel happy and satisfied with their accomplishments. In this blog, we’re going to talk about several more benefits of enrolling your child in a martial arts program, whether it’s an after-school program, summer camp, or a simple birthday event.

In our modern world, filled with electronic communication and entertainment, many parents have issues getting their children to concentrate on academics or any other form of self-improvement. The great thing about martial arts and sports in general, is that they will teach concentration naturally. When you bring your child to our facility, they will be able to work in an environment that is free from distraction.

One issue that’s developed early on in a child’s life and is often overlooked is posture. Poor posture can lead to back problems and other physical conditions like difficulty breathing later in life that are difficult or impossible to recover from, so it’s important to address them now rather than later. At Brooklyn Martial Arts, we’ll help your child develop good posture through balancing exercises and advanced techniques that require mastering your body’s function and abilities.

Many people will start a martial arts training program with the intent of receiving self-defense training. Although this is certainly not the only reason we do martial arts, it is a major benefit. Throughout our training programs, your child will be taught the value of avoiding violent interactions, but if the need arises, they will be able to defend themselves and escape danger.

Regulating Weight

Childhood obesity is no joke, and the rate at which children become obese have been on the rise for a while now. Although overeating is a major contributor to this, many children just never develop an interest in physical activities like others do. In some cases, a child may need their parent to get them interested in an activity that will allow them to both have fun and maintain a healthy weight, at least until they’re old enough to learn how to manage their weight on their own. Martial arts is proven to be a great fat burning exercise. A typical 30-minute martial arts training session can burn anywhere from 360-955 calories which is on par with other intensive cardiovascular exercises.

Let’s face it, kids just want to have fun! Most kids won’t be thinking about all the other benefits they’re getting from their martial arts training, but it’s not entirely necessary. Your kid will meet new friends, develop a bond with his/her instructor, and have some great stories to tell to friends and family. Later in life, they will begin to see all the important benefits they reaped from having enrolled in a martial arts program.
